The Algarve was the region with the highest number of passenger transport services in August, followed by Lisbon, the North and the Islands.

Last August, airport transfer services recorded a growth of 84.7% compared to the same month of 2020, with emphasis on demand from the international market, which accounted for 83% of services, in what is seen as a “clear indicator of recovery in demand from the foreign market”, indicates OSB Solutions, a company that provides the Transfergest Software, which is used by about 1,200 transfer drivers and tourist transport nationally.

According to OSB Solutions, which discloses the August results based on the use of the Transfergest software, compared to the same month of 2019, airport transfers recorded a drop of 9.4%, “when in 2020 it had been 50.9%, which represents another sign of recovery in the movement originated in airport transfers”.

“Analysis of the data allows us to verify that the region with the highest registration of passenger transport services was the Algarve with 49%, followed by Lisbon with a total of 36%, the North registering 11% and finally the Islands with 4% of the services registered at the national level,” adds the company, in a statement, released this Tuesday, September 21.

Although the numbers recorded in 2021 remain below the numbers recorded in the pre-pandemic period, OSB Solutions believes, based on the results found, that “Portugal continues to be seen as a leader in tourism,” so it believes that “when the travel restrictions that are still in place in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic effectively end, Portugal’s position will continue to increase in international markets.”

“In an atypical year in which we continue to be far from achieving the results seen in 2019, in whatever sector, we interpret the above data as a sign that the recovery of the tourism sector may not take as long as was initially thought, especially after the total lifting of restrictions in the face of COVID-19,” adds OSB Solutions.

The Transfergest software presents itself as a digital platform that facilitates the effective management of transfer and tourist transport companies and intends to continue the process of digitalisation and technological innovation of companies operating in this sector.

“Our goal is quite clear: we intend to be the technological partner of these companies so that together we can contribute not only to accelerating the recovery of the tourism sector, one of the most affected by the pandemic crisis that crosses the world, but also to increase the competitive power of these companies in terms of service offerings,” says Carina Miguel, CEO of OSB Solutions.
